Mandarin (Tangerines) -Citrus reticulata is botanically a berry and generally smaller than oranges.  Their skins are a deeper color and are easily detached from their segments and the segments separate easily.

Buying and Storing
When buying mandarins, select those heavy for their size, indicating high juice content.  A puffy appearance and feel is normal for many varieties, but should still have weight. Look for any soft, water soaked areas or mold and avoid buying these. Pronounced softening or black at the stem may indicate the start of stem-end rot.

Remember that citrus fruits do not ripen after harvest, so mandarins maybe slight sour at the beginning of the season. Keep in cool dry place or in fruit bowl, best storage is the refrigerator where they can last for a few weeks.

Prepare, Use and Serve
The tiny segments make good crystallised fruits, favorite for snacks, lunch box, school lunch salads and picnics.  A real convenience fruit.
