**George Boole (1815-64)**was an English mathematician who devised and gave his name to a method of applying mathematics to logic, known as Boolean algebra.

Boole elaborated his method in his book

*An investigation of the laws of thought on which are founded the mathematical theories of logic and probabilities*and his work has influenced a number of eminent mathematician, including Bertrand Russell, as well as being important in computer studies.
